Hi, I’m Clare, and my passion has always been fresh, good, healthy, delicious food.

I trained as a chef under the owner of a award winning Somerset hotel and decided to spend some time travelling South East Asia after qualifying. It was on a long journey from Bangkok to Nakhon Ratchasima where street-food vendors hopped on and off the train with fresh, home-cooked, delicious food. Exactly my passion. It was some of the best I have ever tasted, and from then on all I wanted to do was make and serve simple, seriously tasty food.

An off the cuff conversation in the pub ensued, and six months later I opened my first café in my hometown; suddenly finding myself self-employed making lattes in my very own coffee shop.

Soon my favourite baby girl arrived to delight and challenge me, then a recession and a few hard winters in a seaside town to test me. I was, and still am, determined that my daughter would grow up with a sound understanding of the right foods to eat for health, and how to balance that with the desire to enjoy a big slab of chocolate cake. So we weathered the storm; and the café is still a mainstay of our local high street.

The crazy girl was growing up and had started school, with that the opportunity came up to make a positive change at the local children’s waterpark. At last I could offer an excellent coffee and a proper cup of tea to the ever-patient Mums and Dads waiting on their kids.

I’m always excited by a challenge and never stop looking to see what could be next.

The regular train journeys from Bristol to London with no access to the kind of food I craved from my time travelling in Asia had me complaining at the carriage table. Why couldn’t I get some good, proper food for my trips? And there it was.

In the heart of the bustling Bristol Temple Meads station. Underneath platforms 13 & 15 to be precise. Bringing you the best locally sourced produce located on the train line. So, whilst I won’t be jumping on and off the train to serve you, you can certainly swing by before your journey to create the best train picnic you could ever have to enjoy on your way. Who knows, it might inspire you to start something great.

That’s the Good & Proper way. And we hope to welcome you soon.
